Fact-Check Policy
Last updated: 2026-05-07
What Gets Fact-Checked
- Every numeric claim (percentages, prices, technical metrics).
- Every regulatory citation (EU AI Act, GDPR, BIPA, CCPA, TAKE IT DOWN Act, etc.).
- Every product comparison (free tier limits, feature lists, pricing).
- Every benchmark result.
How We Verify
- Primary sources. Regulators' official websites, standards bodies' published specs, peer-reviewed papers, vendor documentation.
- Recency. We check the date of the source. Claims older than 12 months get re-verified before reuse.
- Cross-reference. Material claims are confirmed against at least two independent sources where practical.
Citation Style
Inline links to primary sources whenever possible. arXiv DOIs for research papers. Direct URLs to regulator pages (not press summaries). Standards bodies cited by full document number (e.g., "ISO/IEC 27001:2022").
Limits of Fact-Checking
We are journalists and product reviewers, not regulators or lawyers. Where we summarize a regulation, we link to the primary text and recommend readers consult their own counsel for binding interpretation. Statistical claims from third parties are checked against the originating source; we don't independently re-run them.
Challenging a Claim
